Welcome to Summer

The weather has been just lovely in the UK recently!

I love it when I wake up and the sun is shining; it makes me more willing to stumble out of bed and get on with my day!

I also love it when I get home from work and it’s still light outside. When the evenings are more pleasant, I find that I have a higher level of energy after a hard day’s work and I can stay up longer. This means I can be more productive at home and get those pesky chores done (or at least started)!

But the most thrilling thing about the summer sunshine? The fashion.

Gone are the chunky knits and coats of winters past; instead we embrace one layer, rather than five, shorten our hemlines and put more flesh on show.

Sometimes I think we British can get a bit ahead of ourselves as soon as we see even the slightest indication of it being a nice day. For example, we often wake up to sunshine and expect it to be warm – when, in fact, the temperature has not even reached 15 degrees. People can get overly ambitious and dress in shorts and flip flops and then they get a shock when they step outside and it’s chilly! These people make me laugh with their desperation for summer weather.

However, I often find that I dress incorrectly. I tend to put on too many layers and end up being toasty, or I just put one layer on expecting it to be red hot and it actually turns out to be ice cold. Or I can start the day dressed correctly, but by the end of it I’ve made a huge error – that’s just British weather for you! You learn to accept it the longer you live here.

It is so much easier and more convenient to dress for warmer weather though. Outfit choices become incredibly simplistic, because you only have to think about one or two pieces instead of which layers you’re going to put with it.

Outfits can look more aesthetically pleasing in the sunshine too – like a nice floral dress or cute-as-a-button pastel miniskirt.

Basically, in my opinion, everything is better when the sun is shining! Your health and mood (vitamin D’s) improves, as well as the fashion.

Here are some of my favourite summer looks at the moment:

Hopefully the weather will stick around, but you never know when it comes to the UK!
