We all know that the blazer dress is one of this season’s key pieces in womenswear.
From tunic-length outerwear ensembles spotted on designer catwalks such as A.Kira Design and Malan Breton to shorter, more casual versions showcased at Daks and Sean Suen, I sure am feeling these blazer dress vibes.
Blazer dresses are a huge part of the androgyny macro trend for A/W 17 where women take on masculine clothing and give guys a run for their money in the fashion stakes.
Personally, I’m loving the androgyny trend because I bloody love menswear – there’s no denying it. I find men’s fashion so much more simple and straight-forward, and you know what they say – less is often more.
Plus, menswear is so easy to wear. I’d love to be able to just throw on a chunky jumper and a cute beanie hat with jeans and then, hey presto, I’m ready to head out and brave the winter elements… Oh, wait – now I can!
All hail androgyny.
The good thing about the blazer dress is its versatility; you can dress it up or down and still look chic.
One of my absolute faves this season is tunic-length, is kept fastened and has a colour-popping hue.
Observe:
How freakin’ cute, right?
This little beauty is from ASOS and makes me look like one kickass lady in red this festive season if I do say so myself. The perfect party dress for a Christmas event or family dinner, it looks truly fabulous when combined with black heeled boots, black handbag and huge gold hoop earrings – the bigger the better!

This blazer dress is also available in the colour of the moment – Chartreuse – but I went with red because I thought it felt a touch more Christmassy. And I’m all about Christmas! Plus, the classic hue means that I can keep wearing it for many wintry seasons to come.
In terms of makeup, I thought I’d go all out for my night on the town. And what better way to make a serious style statement than to pair my red tux dress with ultra red lips?
Gold shadow to match my gold jewellery and winged eyeliner also felt like a must. Then I finished off my look with a curly mane that had been French plaited overnight, let loose and styled with V05 Smoothing Cream.
Voila!
If you’re struggling with how to freshen up the androgyny trend for A/W 17 and give it a bit of an edge, I’d highly recommend investing in a blazer dress.
Now, what other menswear-inspired pieces can I get my hands on?
My boyfriend had better keep an eye on his wardrobe.
