AW18 Colour Trends You’ll Be Obsessed With

If you’re anything like me, you’ll agree that the best thing about autumn/winter is the colours.

From the warm tones of tree leaves to the rich hues of pumpkins and other seasonal vegetables, this time of year is a serious treat for the eyes.

Not too long ago, I posted about AW18 fashion trends. However, I only slightly touched upon wintry hues, therefore I wanted to explore them today in more detail.

Being a visual person, I’m a big fan of clothing in bright, beautiful hues that makes the wearer stand out for all the right reasons. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the end of spring or in the peak of winter, colour is a mood reflector and says a lot about us as people.

For instance, when I’m feeling happy, I might choose to throw on a sunshine yellow cardigan or a rainbow striped jumper. Similarly, if I’m feeling anxious, I might opt for a cool blue dress. Why? Well, blue has natural associations with water, which makes us feel calmer and more centred.

No matter what your mood, read on for the AW18 colour trends that I’m currently obsessed with—and you’ll be obsessed with too.

Rust

AW18 colour trends 101: If you’re a fashion lover, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the hysteria around the colour rust at the moment.

Rust is the gorgeous orangey-red-browny hue that’s been doing the rounds in the form of cute knitted jumpers, A-line mini skirts and patent heeled boots.

Inspired by AW18 shows from designers such as Chloe and Calvin Klein, rust is fun, it’s striking, and it looks like fall epitomised.

Want to achieve the aesthetic? Try this Number One Hit Bodycon Dress by Nasty Gal that you can dress up with gold heeled shoes and a clutch or dress down with snake print boots and a long-line grey cardigan, depending on the occasion.

Tres chic!

Brown

If you’re going to buy into any of the AW18 colour trends, make it this one. From coffee to beige, chocolate and taupe, everything brown is hot hot HOT for this season.

However, want to know the ultimate shade of brown for AW18? That’s right, you guessed it—camel.

Thanks to designers such as Miu Miu and De Vincenzo, camel is currently everywhere—and man, is it cute. Being neutral in hue, it goes with pretty much anything and is especially great for toning down a vibrant outfit.

Want to be the Queen of brown this season? Mix and match your shades in one look. Alternatively, just grab a teddy Borg jacket in camel—like this Topshop version—and you can’t go far wrong.

I’m in love!

Silver

Another of my fave AW18 colour trends, silver is seriously smokin’ in the form of sequinned dresses and glittery bodysuits.

Ideal for the party season in the run up to Christmas, this fad works best with glitzy, metallic or shiny fabrics. In fact—the glitzier, the better!

From patent separates at Fendi and Simone Rocha to two-piece silver suits at Tom Ford and Balmain, silver dominated the catwalks just like it’s set to dominate the high street.

Feeling shy? Start out with a simple jewellery piece or accessory. Alternatively, if you want to embrace your inner maximalist, try this Silver Foil Sequin Mini Dress by Topshop. Now, that’s what I call a party dress!

Neon

The most unexpected yet just as awesome of the AW18 colour trends, neon is coming out to play this season.

What do you mean, I hear you ask? Isn’t neon strictly reserved for summer? Well, the short answer is no, because it actually makes for a very quirky yet very luminous autumn/winter trend—didn’t ya know?

Mostly in the form of chunky jumpers and tongue-in-cheek accessories, we can thank Miuccia Prada for this fresh take on traditional AW18 colour trends.

However, these tones aren’t as garish as seasons past. Think: lime green, watermelon, lemon, fuchsia and other hues that add a much-needed pop of colour to a navy, black, grey or beige outfit.

For instance, this Neon Cable Jumper by ASOS Design looks eccentric yet stylish when paired with high-waisted jeans and heeled boots for the winter season.

If this trend is too much for you to handle, not to worry—try a lime green beanie hat or fuchsia scarf and build up your confidence from there.

Personally, I love these neon hues and I’ll be wearing them all season long! They’re so lush.
