Are you over autumn/winter androgyny? Ready for a fresh spring/summer 2019 look? Want to showcase your feminine side?
If you answered yes to all three questions, you’re in luck.
Inspired by the 1950’s era, the tantalising theme of ladylike luxe reigned supreme across the spring/summer 2019 catwalks.
Whether you choose to embrace this trend head-to-toe or nod to it through key accents, one thing’s for sure: minimalists need not apply here.
Gone are the days of harsh angles and rugged fabrics of seasons past because this spring/summer 2019 is all about delicate beauty. From taffeta and chiffon to lace, silk and satin, any material that looks and feels pretty is a big yes on the style-sphere.
Ideal for a smart or special occasion, just wearing one of these sophisticated yet playful pieces puts a touch of va-va-voom on your outfit.
I realise we’re in 2019 now, but do you recall 1950s-style puff skirts and dresses? Well, they’re making a capricious comeback.
When it comes to silhouettes for spring/summer 2019, think: bigger is better. This takes inspiration from the Valentino fashion runway show, where the models wore exaggerated gowns that looked like they belonged on the cast of Grease.
Whether you supersize your sleeves, waistline or shoulder hems, it’s all about hiding your true shape to radiate retro elegance – and looking fabulous in the process.
Some people like to adorn their chic aesthetic with diamonds or perfume; however, at the spring/summer 2019 shows, it was all about the bow as a standout decorative piece.
You have two choices here. The first: include an oversized bow as a motif on your top, skirt or dress a la Celine, Roksanda and Erdem. The second: attach a bow in your hair in the form of a headband or cool clip following the lead of Emilia Wickstead.
I mean, you could even find a Mary Jane-style shoe boasting a bow if you wanted to put your own unique twist on this enchanting ensemble. Either way, don’t be afraid of a little bow wow this season.
It goes without saying that the spring/summer 2019 fashion forecast brings with it a whole host of new trends for us to experiment and have fun with. That said, one of my favourites (without a doubt) has to be 1950’s ladylike luxe.
Perhaps it’s because I’m a fan of old-school romance. Maybe it’s because I’m fascinated with 1950’s fashion. Or it might be because I’ve always wanted to step inside the world of Grease. Regardless, I know I’ll be wearing this wonderfully womanly trend all season long.
